Diamonds and Silver
in Cocobolo/Birds Eye Maple Cue
Purchased by Doug W.
I started this cue in January 1997, with a very nice piece
of birds eye maple joined to a handle, trued up, and allowed
to rest for two months. The forearm
and handle were reduced incrementally over a period of one year, and the
pockets were cut for the "V" short splice. The
points were added from seasoned Cocobolo wood. The diamonds
were inlaid into the butt sleeve, and then 40 pieces
of silver were added to the butt cap, before and after the wrap, and to the
joint, which was made from Double Black Linen-based fiber as is the butt
cap.
The cue was turned to 10-thousandths of an inch oversize.
Stain was added to the birds eye maple forearm. It was sanded
the next day until the only
stain
that remained was that which had penetrated into the birds eyes themselves.
This accents the birds eyes in the forearm, retaining the natural beauty
of the maple
wood.
I then installed a Uni-Loc® 3/8" Radial Pin and topped the
laminated shaft with an Aegis II ferrule and medium, water buffalo tip. The
balance point
is 19 inches from the butt.
This cue includes the following:
- 1 Shaft
- Weight: 19.25 ounces
- Length: 58 inches
- Ferrule: Aegis II
- Tip: Medium Water Buffalo
